Mokrosinska
Dorota Mokrosinska is Professor of Practical Philosophy at Leiden University where she has taught political philosophy since 2015.

She writes on political authority and obligation, privacy, secrecy and transparency in democratic politics. She has a developing interest in media ethics and the philosophy of technology. She has published in various journals including The Review of Politics, Law and Philosophy, The Journal of Applied Philosophy, The Journal of Social Philosophy, and Ratio Juris. She is the author of "State Secrecy and Democracy: A Philosophical Inquiry" (Routledge, 2023), “Rethinking Political Obligation: Moral Principles, Communal Ties, Citizenship” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012), editor of “Secrecy and Transparency in European Democracies: Contested Trade-Offs" (Routledge, 2020) and co-editor (with B. Roessler) of “Social Dimensions of Privacy: Interdisciplinary Perspectives” (Cambridge University Press, 2015).
Prof. Mokrosinska earned her doctorate in philosophy (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam. Her dissertation won the 2008 National Biennial Dissertation Prize awarded by the Dutch Research School in Ethics. Before joining Leiden University she was a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2009/2010) and at the University of Amsterdam (2010/2013). In Spring/Summer 2013 she was a Departmental Guest at the Department of Politics at Princeton University. In 2014/2015 she worked as a Research Associate at the Department of Political Science of the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.
Prof. Mokrosinska is laureate of an ERC Starting Grant awarded by the European Research Council. She led the ERC StG project entitled “Democratic Secrecy: A Philosophical Study of the Role of Secrecy in Democratic Governance” (2015-2021). She has previously received research funding from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (Rubicon grant, Open Competition). In 2019/2020 she was awarded a Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellow at the Center for Human Values at Princeton University.
Prof. Mokrosinska is an Associate Editor of the journal Res Publica.
